What you learn

Level 3 goes deeper than Level 2: personalised one-to-one training, tailored programme design, and nutrition basics such as caloric intake, macronutrients and meal composition.

  1. Applying anatomy and physiology (5 credits)
  2. Promoting wellness through client motivation and interaction (5 credits)
  3. Customised exercise programme instruction and communication techniques (9 credits)
  4. Nutrition to support physical activity (5 credits)
  5. Bespoke exercise programme design (8 credits)
  6. Business acumen for a successful personal training practice (5 credits)

Assessments

There is no theory exam at Level 3. Instead the coursework is substantial, and you complete ten practical assessments with an experienced assessor, showing you can work with clients safely and effectively.

Consistent attendance matters more here than at Level 2: the material is more complex and each session builds on the last, so plan to attend every session.

Where it takes you

A Level 3 qualification lets you train clients one-to-one, in gyms or independently. The course includes a unit on the business side of personal training, and we bring gym representatives in to talk about the industry before you finish.

Can you get a free place?

A funded place costs you nothing if all four of these are true:

  • You are aged 19 or over
  • You are currently receiving benefits
  • You are not enrolled on any other funded course
  • You are not employed for more than 16 hours per week

Not sure, or not eligible? Apply anyway. We will talk your options through, including our new self-funded places. More on the funding page.

Go the distance.

One form, about five minutes. Choose Level 3, or start at Level 2 if you are new to the industry.
